The Top 5 Chevrolet Chevelle

By Cornelius Nunev

With but a single 2012 Oscar nomination for sound editing, the Ryan Gosling existential action movie "Drive" has some movie pundits up in arms over the lack of interest. However, automotive fans who have seen the movie know that Gosling's character Driver is driving no faceless post-muscle era car, but a 1973 Chevrolet Chevelle. Honoring "Drive" and the Chevrolet Chevelle, here are the leading five models in the line's history, courtesy of Bold Ride.

Individuals love the Chevy Chevelle

With the 1973 Chevrolet Chevelle, the American national fuel crisis was not missed at all. However, it did miss the muscle car era that the United States went through. It is a lot like Gosling's character in the movie though. His character gets the job done without having to add in any extra tricks. The Chevrolet Chevelle also gets the job done by being a muscle car without having any additional or flashy things added to it.

The Chevrolet Chevelle began production in 1964 and ended a decade later. In 1970, many claim the most powerful rated factory muscle car ever was being produced with the SS 454 version. The Chevelle was killed by 1973 though when the public stopped wanting the car regardless of the attempts to keep the Chevelle alive from Yenko, Nickey and Baldwin-Motion.

#5 - 1964 Malibu SS 327 L76

Only a few of these Malibu automobiles were actually produced and sent to the street, but people loved the power and lightweight chassis if they were able to get their hands on one. Corvette produced the 465 hp, 327 cubic inch L76 motor. Chevy got a lot of optimistic feedback.

#4 - Here we have the 1966 Chevelle SS 396 L78

This year, a lot more Chevrolet Chevelles were produced as it became a mainstream automobile, according to Bold Ride. It had an L78 cubic inch big-block that got 375 hp. The horsepower was great despite the belief that it had little gas mileage. It had a Mark IV big-block motor to help with that.

# 3 - Do not overlook the 1965 Malibu SS 396 Z16

This sported a highly desired big-block engine. Only 200 hardtops and one convertible were produced, and the vast majority of those were saved for various journalists and celebrities. The Z16 was powerful, clocking in at 375 horses.

# 2 - Listed here is the 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6

With no displacement cap, the Chevrolet Chevelle was able to get a ton of adventure and 450 horsepower. This was great for the 454 cubic inch engine that the 1970 automobile had.

#1 - Selecting the 1969 Chevelle COPO 9562

The COPO Chevelle appeared before the 1970 version. COPO stands for Central Office Production Order. These automobiles had a history of their own, and a lot of people do not know it. The vehicle got 427 cubic inches despite the 400 cubic inch limit at the time. It was able to get 425 hp with that kind of motor.
