Looking For A Company For Boat Transport

By Jason Kelly

If you are the owner of a boat, you may need it relocating. A small motor boat or dinghy can be put onto a trailer and towed which is a simple process. Larger vessels will have to be moved by a professional team and you will need to look for a company for boat transport and a little research should be done.

All boats can be transported by the specialists and it is very important that you hire a well established firm. Most companies will tow a small boat on a trailer using one of their pick up trucks or vans. The larger crafts will have to be transported by a big rig and lifting cranes will be needed at the collection and delivery points.

The prices charged by the transport companies will depend on where the vessel has to be taken and its size and weight. Short interstate road journeys will be a fairly quick process and reasonably inexpensive. Moving a boat over very long distances or to another country will take a long time and will cost a lot of money.

After you have made up your mind to move your boat you will have to find a team of professional movers. You can look through your local telephone books and business publications to find telephone numbers and email addresses. The other option, which is a lot easier, is to search the net where many companies advertise their services.

When you initially make contact with a company to handle the transportation, you will have to give them some important details. You will need the delivery and pick up addresses and the specifications of the vessel. The firm can then give you their price to do the job and wait for your approval. It is worth making enquiries with a few companies for price estimates so that you can compare quotes.

Many of the transport firms will have a page on their web site where you can enter your vessels details and get an instant quote. If you choose this option, it is important that your submitted details are correct. The majority of the web sites will have a reviews page with feedback from previous clients, and this feedback is worth reading, before you hire them.

Most firms will offer additional service such as storage and transportation of small crafts. If your vessel has to go into storage they will be able to arrange a secure location where it will be kept until it is due for delivery. When moving overseas, boats will often need to be held in warehouses for a period of time until they are ready for the road journey to the new address.

It is a good idea to do a little research on your moving firm before you hire them to make sure they are licensed and fully insured. The majority of firms will have adequate insurance cover which will cover most vessels but it is worth checking. It is also essential that someone is at the delivery address to check the vessel for damage before signing for the delivery.
