By Darelle Moore

A very important part of buying a used car is to take the time to personally check the vehicle and take it out for a test drive. It is only common sense to make sure that you research as much as you can about the used vehicle that you are thinking of purchasing since you are going to spend anywhere between five to fifteen thousand dollars just to own it. You have to take the time to carefully take a look at the vehicle being offered to you especially if it is your first time to get a used auto.

So how do you go about inspecting this used vehicle being offered you? To start with, you have conduct your inspection during the daytime to ensure there is sufficient light to see everything that is vital. Artificial lights cast shadows, concealing scratches and imperfections on the body of the car.

Make sure the car is parked on level ground so you would get a good look if the tires are even or if there is any sagging on the body of the car. It is also important to check if there is an uneven wear on the tires of the car as this is a sign that there is a problem with the suspension of the vehicle.

It is also advisable to go to various sites so that you could get some tips on what other things you have to keep an eye out for when you are inspecting the vehicle. You could also have a mechanic check the car and test drive it for you so you would get a pretty good idea with regards to the car's actual performance as this can really help you decide on the purchase. Make sure that you test drive the car on a cool engine; a cool engine can tell you a lot more on the car's performance than a warm engine ever would.

Before you inspect the car, you have to do some research on used car values and prices. You can go to various sites to get an idea of how much used cars are valued and should be priced. This way, you can determine if the dealers or private sellers are asking you for more money than what the car is actually worth.

If you are going to buy a used car sold by a private seller, this information can come in handy because these people have a tendency to ask for more money than the prevailing market value of the vehicle. When you know how much the car is worth, this would assist you in deciding how much to negotiate or offer for the car. Just be sure, however, that you are going to set a reasonable amount to offer the sellers. In this manner you will not irritate the sellers so that they would be more likely to agree to your price.
