Wheels underwent modification to provide better traction and handling.
After the Second World War, many military airports were abandoned and never used. Thus, they provided good ground for hot rodders to race on. However, some racers did not stay on the airports, but instead took some of the action to the streets. This led to a major safety issue, necessitating the formation of the National Hot Rod Association, which was responsible for ensuring safety and standards among racers and the vehicles.
In later years, manufacturers of cars started to make cars that had better performance. This led to a reduction in interest in hot rods since people could purchase muscle cars straight from showrooms. However, later in 1973, manufacturers started to focus more on fuel efficiency because of the Oil Crisis. This led to the birth of the street rods, modified cars not intended for racing.
