When Does Rental Equipment Become Impractical?

By Halisse Enmma

Among the biggest challenges for contractors is acquiring the equipment needed for their projects regardless if it's a high rise or a simple home renovation particularly when they have to stay well within specific budgets. This means they are always on the lookout for more practical ways to gather the equipment they need. Among these practical solutions is to choose rental equipment services which allows contractors to rent anything from earthmoving machinery to submersible pumps and industrial generators for days, weeks or months - depending on their needs.

And there are a lot of rental companies these days you can work with so availability is not going to be much of a concern. But there are some that are a little undecided about renting construction equipment. If so, then when is it a bad idea to rent construction equipment and when should you consider this option?

One of the great things about renting construction equipment is you only need pay for the length of time the equipment will stay on your building site. So you can set your budget accordingly and still get the equipment you need to get your project in the works. Logistics is not a problem too since the rental company can and will arrange for the equipment to be transported to and from your building site.

There are also flexible rental terms which allows you to pay for generator rental on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. The time renting becomes impractical is when, for example, you are going to rent a bulldozer or two for more than three months. It is then important to determine exactly what equipment you need and how long you need it for.

Never rent anything that you will use more than sixty percent of the time; this is the general rule of thumb on construction equipment rentals. You would be surprised at how much renting earth-moving equipment for six months to a year will cost you. For equipment you would need long term, you can look at their site to check out leasing or lease-to-own options that would cost you less.

Carefully discuss lease terms and agreements with the dealers you plan working with to be sure you will end up with the best deals available. You should also take the time comparing at least a couple of dealers with each other so you can be sure to get the best leasing options available.
